Five years ago, an assassin suddenly emerged in the world of Maelstrom. She was said to be a youthful weapon master, but shocked the world with her ability to negate magic cast by even the most powerful sorcerers. She called herself “Blackbird”. No one is able to figure out her motive or find the true culprit behind her action, and in one short year, her slaughter of high rank officials around the world has triggered the tension beneath Maelstrom’s new-found peace to resurface.
Amidst chaos, the cause of Blackbird's magic immunity was eventually blamed on the practice of magic itself. At the end of the unnerving year, the Prohibition was established. Common Magic--something that has been part of Maelstrom’s daily life for millenniums--is now a forbidden art. Countless sorcerers and artisans who rely on magic were captured or exiled for refusing to accept this sudden change. However, to the world’s relief, the assassin has since then vanished from the world.
